About Anti-Sell

“At heart, I’m a freelancer who does sales – not a salesperson.”

Anti-Sell came about because despite having freelanced for 6+ years, I still didn’t enjoy the sales side of running a business – and I knew a fair few people who felt the same way.

When we think of sales, we think of the ‘hard sell’, of cold-calling, of The Wolf of Wall Street, of dressing smart and going to a ‘business networking event’ and throwing business cards into people’s hands. We think of the classic, stereotypical and – dare I say – ugliest side of sales, which can be really off-putting to people (like myself) who don’t like to sell themselves in that way.

But the good news is: you don’t have to sell yourself in that way.

Anti-Sell looks at sales in the least salesy way possible. Instead of hassling people, you help people. Instead of self-promoting by selling your services, you self-promote by showcasing your knowledge and passion. Instead of going out there and hunting for sales, you let the sales come to you.

Yes, it takes time. No, there’s no magic button or silver bullet. But it is the best way to sell – especially for those who don’t likes sales or networking. And if you do sales and networking in a way that ties in with your passions and your strengths, then sales won’t even feel like sales anymore – who knows, you might end up actually enjoying it. That’s the Anti-Sell way.

Perhaps best of all, this blog – and the book that preceded it – is written by a freelancer, not a ‘sales guru’. It’s by a freelancer, for freelancers. I may not know every savvy, schmoozy sales trick in the book, but I’m proof that you can sell yourself in a non-salesy way – and succeed.
